Our Story
Listen to Serve
“Listen to Serve” is the motto of Heart of Gong, a community-interest non-profit-making company; its purpose is to bring Quality Relaxation to participants through meditation with sound experiences and to improve their emotional well-being.
The pressure on people in Hong Kong is ever increasing. Quality Relaxation is essential to support one's physical and emotional development, especially during post-pandemic time. Heart of Gong aims at providing a high-quality meditation experience to participants, including students, teachers and parents at schools; and also to institutions and private groups.
Our Aims
promoting emotional well-being through mindfulness
Each part of the human body carries its respective frequencies. Since ancient times, Chinese tradition has advocated that the way of health is to harmonize the movement of Qi (vital energy) in the body.
Meditation promotes a sense of well-being , inner peace, stability and calm. It also promotes clarity of mind, mental awareness, and the ability to be present which is essential in mindfulness practice.
When hearing sounds, for example, we don't just listen through our ears. We actually feel the vibrations of the sounds all over our body. We feel relaxed when we hear pleasant sounds; while noises make us irritable, anxious, and produce negative emotions. Gong healing has a unique sound system, which mainly uses the vibrations of the gong to improve the circulation of Qi and to restore physical and emotional health to the body.
The pace of society is constantly accelerating. Around the world, health and emotional problems stemming from stress are ever increasing. When stress is released, many chronic diseases, sleep quality, mood, and relationships can be improved. Physical and emotional health will naturally be restored. Among the most common sound relaxation instruments used in today's mindfulness classes, gong has the strongest resonance that can eliminate distracting thoughts, balance emotions, and promote inner harmony and joy.

Our Founders
Serving with Genuine Attempt
Dorothy
Meditation Instructor/Gong Player
Dorothy, a typical Hong Kong ordinary: hardworking and hoping to bring about a better life for herself and her family. Years of work in investment banks and media companies had secured Dorothy her basic needs in life, however, she found that her emotional health had deteriorated. Feeling burned out in 2014, Dorothy left her job, hoping to give her life a chance to start again.
Since then, Dorothy has been actively practicing different modalities to explore the benefits of art, meditation, sound healing, and yoga to the human body. Her teaching combines practice and learning, focusing on 'easy to understand' approaches, to bring release and relaxation to the participants.
In recent years, Dorothy has actively participated in education-related voluntary work. She is actively promoting the introduction of inner peace, balance and health into a person’s life.
Dorothy holds various qualifications, including Gong Playing, Integral Soundwork, Kundalini Yoga, philosophical counselling (certified), and multiple degrees in law, marketing and social sciences.
Foster
Thinker
Since young, Foster loves to question everything, including the meaning of life. Brought up in a traditional elite secondary school but being an invisible achiever, he started his voyage of quest in religion and subsequently in philosophy. While the thousand-year question remains unanswered, Foster finds satisfaction and actualisation through his volunteer work in education-related fields and his career as a barrister. Realising that all-goodness is unachievable, Foster nevertheless strives it as a goal as humanity would guide him on the way and give him strengths.
